Showcasing a designer-favoured move, Greer Interior Design banks on the versatility of a small console table and backs one against a sofa in a breezy Hill Country living room arrangement. The corrugated finish, cast concrete console – the Belmont, designed by Mr Brown – acts as a bridge between the finish of the grey concrete fireplace and the warm wooden floor.
Just make sure the scale of the piece fits with the space you’re designing. You don’t want your table to look lost against your wall. Make it feel intentional by anchoring it to the space with a large center focal piece like a mirror, a large canvas, or a gallery of smaller frames.
Add a Mirror or Artwork. If your console is sitting up against a wall in an entry way, you may wish to hang an artwork on a mirror above it. An artwork can make a grand opening statement for your home and is a great way to introduce colour and reflect your personality.
CURVE APPEAL. The master bedroom of an apartment (situated in London’s prestigious Grade II* listed Grosvenor Crescent) gets a feminine makeover in the form of a shapely console table addition. Helen Green Design Director Sammi Wickins talks through the scheme: “The circularity of the mirror counterbalances the concave cut-outs of the [console’s] base. The shapes and palette of white lacquer and bronze highlights neatly complement the fretwork antique screen adorning either side of the […] headboard. It is a fresh clean look created using shades of ivory, oozing an archetypal Hollywood glamour.”
