If adding a lamp on just one side, make sure the objects you place on the opposite side help to create an overall balance look. For example; if your lamp is on the right side of the console, a vase at a lower height could be placed at the left hand side. Add three decorative objects at a much smaller scale beside the vase to help create visual balance. Objects always looked best when placed in groups of odd numbers such as three or five.
LATTICE WORK. Contrasting strength and delicacy, a delicate honeycomb-like Porta Romana console table is placed below two commanding portraits by Andrew Martin – one featuring a negative image of the other – in a hallway design by Caballero. The design’s network base is highlighted with a pale neutral backdrop whilst drama is added by way of the deep mauve tones and high contrasts of the artwork.
Natalia describes the scene: “Understated yet elegant with the neutral tones of greys and silvers creating a calm space. I wanted to continue with a play on geometry which I featured within the sitting room of the house, with the swooping line and dramatic curve of the table then met with rectangular lights either side. The circular mirror above contrasts with the rigidity of the other pieces.”
A mirror opens up an area to create a sense of space, it will also help to reflect light and create a brighter feel, while providing a place to check your hair before you rush out the door. Tip: When selecting an artwork or mirror just be sure that the size works well with the scale and colour of the wall, the console and the other objects you are adding to the console.
